BlackBerry Hidden Program Revealer v0.1

Okay, for real this time.  Continuing from my previous post, I’ve got version 0.1 of the HiddenProgs app available for download.  Grab your copy here.  The way I installed it was to just navigate to the link using my Bold.  By downloading the program, you’re acknowledging you’ve read and understood the disclaimer below.

Description

The program has 2 options.  One is the Reveal option.  This option is only visible in your Menu when the Etisalat BlackBerry Spyware is detected on your handheld.  If it isn’t there, then the option doesn’t show up.

The second option is the Show Hidden Programs.  As the name suggests, it gives you a look into all the programs that are marked as hidden on your handheld.  This also includes libraries.

For now, I would urge you to browse around the hidden programs and see if you come across anything suspicious.  I think, as a general rule of thumb the net.rim.* libraries and programs can be trusted.

How to use

Start the program, it should tell you whether or not the spyware was detected on your handheld.  If it is detected, then press the Menu and select Reveal.  Then quit the application, go to Options->Advanced Options->Applications, click on Registration and uninstall it.  That should be it.

I would really like to hear your comments and most importantly would like to have your help in improving this program.  Please try it out and either post a comment or mail me directly.  My email address is in the About option.

Thanks, and be safe!

    Hello There,

I am having this problem of my battery getting drained, called 101 and they ask me to go to the nearest dealer to fix this problem. do you have any other solution to it or I have to go to the dealer?
  • Ch0pstick
    Hello,

From your comment, its not very clear if you have been affected by the Etisalat spyware or if you're experiencing a faulty battery. The Etisalat spyware has been known to cause battery drainage as well. I'd suggest visiting the RIM website using your BlackBerry handheld and downloading their Registration Application remover. If the app detects the Etisalat spyware, then you can remove it and see how your handheld behaves. The link to download the Registration Application remover is: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/ataglance/security...

thanks for the software. My Blackberry works like it was meant to again. I was having all kinds of issues...missed calls. I could not send emails from Oman....it would vibrate when sending an email from my computer. All is back to normal. Thanks again

    Hi there,
Downloaded and installed your app to my device (BB8800). Selected Reveal and received following error: Uncaught exception: net.rim.device.api.system.ControlledAccessException. Selected Settings/Options/Advanced Options/Applications, and cannot see Registration file. Any thoughts?
Thanks for trying to help us out!
  • Ch0pstick
    Hello,
The ControlledAccessException usually occurs when a program cannot gain access to secured RIM functions. In other words, access to functions required by the program are restricted. I belive this may have something to do with the Application Permissions on your device.

I think rather than troubleshooting, and to make your life simpler, I will point you to the official BlackBerry spyware removal tool from RIM. You can grab a copy here: http://www.blackberry.com/registrationappremover

    Hope this helps.

i did exactly what you said but i cant delete registration???
    help please
  • Ch0pstick
Mohammed, can you please tell me how you're trying to delete the registration and the error message you receive?

[Update] Please use the "Show Hidden Programs" option, copy the results and mail them to my email address. Also when you try to remove the "Registration" program, I assume you go to Options>Advanced Options>Applications, then you select Registration and click Delete, is that correct? If it is correct, then can you tell me what happens after you select "Delete"? Do you receive a message afterwards?
  • mohameddd
there is no delete thats why i cant delete it i go to options, advanced options.aplications .registration but there is no delete and i will send send you the results on your email
  • Ch0pstick
Wow, that's interesting, so you can see the Registration program, but when you highlight it and click the menu, you see only options like "Edit permissions", etc but no Delete? That is a first time. Did you attempt a restart and try again?
  • mohameddd
yes i can only see view properties , edit permission, modules, edite default permissions, switch aplication, close
thats it there is no delete
  • jazzi_jenny
Hi Mohameddd, pls select EDIT PERMISSIONS and then set all permissions to DENY. Hope it works.

Thanks for this program! I had wiped my blackberry, but still downloaded the program for re-assurance.

Glad you find it useful, pity I couldn't have it ready before you wiped your BB. Would have saved you some annoyance ;)
